Hollywood Primary School offers many opportunities to engage students in Music. Students in Years 1 to 6 receive one period of Music education per week, delivered by a Music Specialist. In these classes, students experience music through strategies inspired by the Kodaly, Dalcroze, and Orff-Schulwerk pedagogies. They learn to express themselves through creative tasks, develop their music literacy skills, and are exposed to music of a range of styles and cultures. In addition, students have many opportunities to engage in Music outside the classroom by joining an ensemble.
Students in Years 1 to 3 are encouraged to join the Junior Choir, while students in Years 4 to 6 join the Senior Choir. The school Choir leads the school at numerous assemblies and special events throughout the year.Students also have the option of joining the after school Rock Band, which entertains the school at end of year events. The Rock Band provides another fun opportunity for keen musicians to rehearse and perform together.
Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) offers small group instrumental tuition to students recognised to display musical aptitude from as early as Year 3. At Hollywood the instruments offered are violin (Year 3), cello (Year 4), and guitar, flute and brass (Year 5). Instrumental music students enjoy opportunities to share their learning with their peers, including at the annual Music Assembly in Term 4.
