Welcome to the French program at Hollywood Primary School! Our curriculum is designed to spark a lifelong love for language through a dynamic and age-appropriate approach that evolves with our students as they grow.
Early Years (Years 2–3)
In the junior years, we focus on building a joyful and confident foundation. The classroom is a vibrant space where the French language comes to life through:
• Play-Based Learning: Interactive games that make acquiring new words natural and fun.
• Musical Engagement: Singing and rhythmic activities to perfect pronunciation and build a “musical ear” for the French accent.
• Vocabulary Foundations: Regular reviews designed to boost retention and give young learners the tools they need to express themselves.
Upper Primary (Years 4–6)
As students’ progress, the focus shifts toward independence and global citizenship. Our upper primary students engage in:
• Daily Reviews: Consistent practice sessions to reinforce core concepts and ensure linguistic skills are sharp and ready for use.
• Hypothetical Trip Planning: Students take the lead on research projects where they plan their own journeys through the Francophone world. From navigating transport logistics to selecting cultural landmarks, this practical application brings their language skills into a real-world context.
• Cultural Immersion: Moving beyond just words, students dive deep into the traditions, daily life, and diverse cultures of the French-speaking world.

We are incredibly fortunate this year to welcome a French Language Assistant to our team. This addition allows us to offer:
• One-to-One Support: Targeted assistance to help students move at their own pace.
• In-Depth Learning: More opportunities for small-group conversation and authentic linguistic exchange, ensuring every student has the chance to truly flourish in their second language.
Consistency & Engagement
To ensure a seamless transition between year levels and subjects, the French program actively incorporates Engagement Norms. By utilising these familiar instructional strategies, we provide students with a consistent learning environment. This continuity helps students feel secure in their routines, allowing them to focus their energy on mastering new linguistic challenges and staying highly engaged throughout every lesson.
